They are either blind or think I'm crazy

Ellis and I have ventured out on the town a couple times since his birth when I've had someone congratulate me and acknowledge that I have "another one on the way". Uhm, really? You see a 7 day old baby and think I'm pregnant again? Either they are blind and don't see that I'm with a newborn baby or they think I've lost my mind and have become pregnant again. That would be called an immaculate conception and my name is not Mary. Either way, I find the comment pretty humorous.

When I informed one man at the local coffee shop that I was no longer pregnant because I had delivered "this baby 5 days ago" (as I pointed to the one in the stroller next to me) he asked me "Oh my! Well, WHAT are you doing out??!" My response: "GETTING SOME MUCH NEEDED COFFEE!"

We REALLY know how to spend a Friday night....

...in early labor - or at least I think. I will keep y'all posted!

Happy due date to Numero Dos and I! (I went ahead and took this picture while I could still "deal" with the contractions. Here we are at 40 weeks!)

39 weeks

Just over 39 weeks here...with one week to go until our due date. I'm a bit surprised we've made it this far. All in all I'm feeling pretty good for as big as I feel. I've been sleeping okay until about 4am...then it is touch and go from there. However, I've been sticking to my daily naps so that has helped. Even Mike has started to go to bed early. If there's anything we learned from Cavin's delivery it is that being up for over 30 hours straight is no fun whatsoever so we are all about trying to prepare and make sure we are in bed early these days with lots of sleep behind us. That being said, I'll probably go into labor at 10pm. :(

The grandmas are slowly trickling into town too! My mom arrived on Wednesday and Mike's mom arrives today! We are so excited to share this time with them and Cavin is very excited to be receiving double the grandma love.

Numero Dos seems to be doing very well too. We have two appointments a week these days to check everything from his heart rate to his position to his movement and fluid levels and all seems to be a-okay. He's still squirming around in there but not as much as a couple weeks ago...probably due to space restrictions....sorry Dos I can only stretch so far!

I will of course keep everyone informed on his arrival...but please don't be surprised if we announce him without a first name...we are having trouble deciding on one!

Hambone

One of my best friends, Katie, and I have a long-time running joke about a man nick-named 'Hambone'. She once saw a special on this 2000+ pound man who had to be air lifted out of his house because he was so large. She and I became obsessed with how someone could get that large with no one around him to even so much as give a small hint to the fact that maybe he should cut back on the 20 cheeseburgers he was eating in one meal or a friend to coerce the guy into some gentle exercise.

So from that day forward, Katie and I vowed that if one of us was heading towards 'Hambone status', we would take the other for a walk.

I mention this story because as I reach the pregnancy milestone of 37 weeks today (full-term!) I have to say I feel pretty damn large. Not in pounds as somehow I've managed to gain the same amount of weight as my last pregnancy...but I just feel larger than last time. I don't remember my muscles being this sore or tired, random people on the street make comments like "any day now right!?", and a friend / co-worker of mine wrote to me the other day and said "And try not to get too much bigger. I know I always put on weight this time of year. Given your current situation, you run the risk of literally exploding." Very humorous! But you know what? Frankly, I don't think I'd argue if a helicopter showed up at my door to take me to work every day.

So far though, Katie hasn't shown up in California to take me on a walk so I think I'm doing pretty good. You tell me...

In all honesty, I have felt pretty good...until the last 3 days. I blame that almost entirely on this big deadline we had at work this week, making for long nights and intense days at the office. That has passed by for the most part so I think my body just needs some R&R.

Numero Dos is chugging right along. His heart rate is great, he's moving a lot (making me a bit worried that we have another active one on our hands), he's head down, and he's growing at a bit of a faster rate than Cavin did at this point (judging from my doctor's measurements of my belly size)...so I'm curious how his stats compare after delivery!

Aside from that, we have been busy organizing the house, cleaning out the guest room to get ready for grandma's arrival, setting up secondary child care and pet care should I go into labor earlier than anticipated, and packing our hospital bags (gulp). It is getting pretty exciting around the Spruiell house!

31 days

One month until Numero Dos' due date!

And I've had a revelation: the more pregnant I've become, the more I have in common with my toddler. Hear me out:

1. The bigger our bellys get, the cuter we become (do not argue with me on this).
2. We like to show our bellys off to Mike and to one another.
3. Sometimes we have emotional outbursts and this just has to be accepted.
4. Too much information for some...but...a lack of control over bodily functions.
5. We have Mike wrapped around our pretty little (or in my case - quickly becoming swollen) fingers.
6. Naptime! When the toddler goes down, so does the pregnant wife. And you can be sure that Mike insists this happens...otherwise, it is an afternoon of hell for him.
7. Snacktime all the time!
8. People rejoice when we put on weight.
9. When we walk (or run, or waddle), everyone around is just a little more nervous - not quite sure where we'll end up, what we'll run into, or if we'll fall.
10. Our bodies literally grow right before others' eyes.

Hello 35/35 (and stripes)!

Today, on the last day of 2010, I am 35 weeks pregnant with 35 days until my due date. What a fun way to end the year right? Well, I'm certain some of you out there are having a lot more fun on NYE than these Spruiells. Between a toddler and an 8 months pregnant wife, Mike isn't enjoying much partying like he did in his 20s. Instead, he is currently working on building shelves for the boys' rooms. Yeehaw!

And here we are a 35/35. Somewhere out in cyber-land my co-workers are giggling. See they think it is really funny when I wear horizontal stripes. They just don't seem to understand why someone wants to emphasize a growing belly with horizontal stripes. My answer? It's not like I can hide it! And I need something to emphasize the belly and get me that seat on bart. But all of this made me realize something - most (if not dare I say 'all') striped shirts that are not button down shirts are horizontal! Seriously, I've been looking and I really think that's the case....maternity shirts or not. Which, by the way, that shirt I'm wearing in the picture - NOT maternity! Take that stripes!

Dos seems to be doing great! He's moving, hiccuping, and growing! I'm feeling pretty good with minor complaints. We thoroughly enjoyed the holidays...and by that I mean LOTS of treats and all around bad food. Hey, it's what baby wanted and who can turn down a 5lb bundle of joy?

In Cavin news, he now points to my tummy and says "yummy"! I'm not sure if this is just a simple mispronunciation or if he thinks I have just found something really yummy to eat and have eaten a LOT of it - hence the enormous belly. I kinda wonder if he is wanting in on the action. Yeah kid, it's called peanut butter balls and puppy chow. That's the secret.

Numero Dos answers SOME of our questions!

There have been a couple things Mike and I are mainly curious about regarding the 'looks' of our new baby boy. I won't share all of them b/c, frankly, many of them are a bit ridiculous. However, nearing the top of our list are:

1) Eye color - blue or brown?
2) Skin color - frosty the snowman or jimmy buffet?
3) Webbed toes? - it's where Cavin and I get our power (Mike disagrees - he's jealous)
4) Angelina Jolie lips? - this is how Cavin attracts the ladies
5) Spruiell nose?
6) Spruiell noggin?

Dos decided to tease us a bit and hand over some long awaited answers! From the pictures below, I think we can all determine that #4 and #5 are a 'go'. And the measurements that the doctor took on his head (at this point clocking in at 89th percentile) give #6 a 'go'. He held his left arm over his eyes the entire time just in case we had super technology that could tell eye color. :)

Judging from the picture below, I think #3 above could be a 'no go' - TOO BAD for Numero Dos! I'm still holding out though for some last minute duck toes though!

Aside from the superficial, everything is measuring well. All of his organs seem to be functioning properly, he is moving a lot, and still has those hiccups :). He has moved down slightly to 76th percentile over all in weight (phew!) but the doctor and technician kept saying things like "what a big baby!" and "look at those long feet!" so we really don't know what to expect.

Hey guess what? I'm pregnant!

So apparently I became magically pregnant this week...because that's when my co-workers started taking notice. You know, the co-workers who see me, at a minimum, 9 hours a day 5 days a week. On Monday I received 4 comments about how "enormous" and "big" I am. I got a lot of "when are you due?...February 4th??...You are going to be HUUUGE!" Why yes I am people...the belly grows a centimeter a week so count on about 10 more centimeters. On Tuesday I got some giggles and a "boy you sure are pregnant". On Wednesday I decided to wear ALL black like from my feet to my neck...solid, slimming black. I was told how nice I looked twice that day (what a change) but then someone said "you look even bigger than just yesterday!" Well, that's the goal here folks. So today I'm owning up to my enormous elephantitis and blasting in on the Internet for all of you to poke fun and judge.

Today started off a bit rough as well. As I was giving Cavin a hug and kiss on his way to day care, he simply shifted his weight towards me and I took a tumble backwards to the floor. Mike had to peel my sorry pregnant self off the floor and listen to mumblings of how 'Cavin pushed me over' or 'I lost my balance', etc when really we know it is a complete loss of my center of gravity due to Numero Dos.

In other news, Mike and I are making strides on the boys' rooms. We ordered Cavin's new big boy furniture and bedding and we've narrowed down paint colors for the baby's room. We've also received all the crib bedding and most of the decor for baby's room as well. Now it's all about painting and setting things up...which can take some time. It is a lot of work designing two rooms at once while still unpacking our house, buying Christmas gifts, and wrangling in a toddler.

Cavin has become slightly more defiant with us lately. This morning alone he threw a fit because he wanted to put his sock on his hand instead of his foot, I didn't change his diaper fast enough, and he wanted to play with his "Memo" (aka Elmo) toy versus getting in his chair for breakfast. Last night, apparently all Mike had to do was walk into the room and Cavin burst into a screaming, teary fit. Dare I say this could be the beginning of the dreaded tantrum phase.

On the bright side, he is started to pair words together to communicate. He says things like "Thank you mommy" and "Goodbye doggies". And every day I feel like a new word is said. Today's new word: cold. When they walked outside to go to Pari's house, he turned around and said "Coold!!" He truly is a lot of fun and we are amazed at his development every single day. But by the end of the day, Mike and I are WORN OUT.

Kinda like Cavin was this past weekend after a run to Home Depot to look at paint colors for his little bro...

Baby Boy + 30 weeks = Third Trimester!

There he is folks. I'm not sure where the time has gone to (possibly work, moving homes, rooting for my winning Aggies, and yoga - with some bundt cakes, gingerbread lattes, and cookies in between)...but hello people, we are in the 3rd trimester. Count it. That's 10 weeks from today. Cavin has no clue what is coming. Scratch that - none of us really know what is to come....except I think Sandy, Jerry, and Toby have a clue.

I'm feeling pretty good...today. If you would have asked me two weeks ago I would have gone on and on about hip and pelvic pain, as well as, a mean case of the hives and loss of breath. But as with all pregnancy symptoms they come and go so this week I've felt pretty good. I'm sleeping well too, which of course I realize I've jinxed myself to nights of restless sleep until our boy arrives. Oh wait, there will be no sleep once he arrives either.

During our first trimester we had some blood work come back that indicated we could possibly have a low birth weight baby. Due to those results, we were asked to come in for a 3rd trimester ultra-sound to check his weight. The results: we have the opposite problem now. The baby is measuring at 83rd percentile in weight....allegedly on track to be an 8.5 to 9 pound baby! You want my take? The baby's enormous Spruiell noggin' is skewing the results (the head is one of 3 measurements they take to guess-timate the weight). Numero Dos was facing down and with his back towards my belly button so the best picture we got was of his thigh. However, the doctor has asked us to come back to check weight again so hopefully we'll get a face shot!

23 weeks

There I am. Me and my belly full of donuts, cookies, de-caffe lattes, and chocolate milk. Oh yeah, there's a baby in there too...apparently 11 inches long and the size of a mango. The baby and I are currently arguing over oxygen and mobility at the moment. I had my first embarrassing situation when Mike had to use all of his strength to help me stand up the other day...that was a shining moment. Seems as if this pregnant girl needs to ramp up the workouts.

One thing the baby and I DO agree on? Sugar. But this is no surprise to many of you.

All joking aside, I am feeling pretty great. Anything is better than bells palsy. Sure, as of last night, I've literally been fighting for oxygen and I feel like I gained 10 pounds overnight but I know this is a temporary feeling and I'm just having one of those days. Overall, I've felt good and we are trucking along. Baby Boy #2 and I go to prenatal yoga twice a week so that has helped us feel great.

Mike's focus has been on semi-important things like his increasing work schedule and transferring over our utilities (more on that later) while my mind has wondered over to even MORE important things like crib bedding!

Friday, October 1, 2010

It's been a while: Allow #2 and I to catch you up...

Baby Boy #2, Numero Dos, Little Squirt, or the Evil Incarnate (that's Jerry's nickname for him)...whatever you want to call him...wants you to know he is alive, well, and a growin'!

First Row: Weeks 4, 5, and 6

Second Row: Weeks 8, 9, and 10

Third Row: Weeks 12, 13, and 14

Fourth Row: Week 21

As you can see, I was a bit busy between weeks 14 and 21. Between having family in town, work ramping up for both Mike and myself, and my best friend Bells Palsy visiting...Mike and I couldn't find the time to throw on the pink tank top, stand in front of a stark white door and ugly door knob, and take the belly shots. We promise to be on the ball from now on...

5 to 2 (and Introducing Numero Dos!)

5 to 2...Sandy and I have GOT this. That's right. Lord help us because it is a(nother) boy. I'm beginning to think there is some conspiracy against the hot blonds in this house but them I remember the toddler is one of us so that's not it. That's alright...I've said it before and I will say it again...Sandy and I can handle this!

Introducing....Numero Dos (both in number of babies and number of baby boys)!

He doesn't look at all alien-like right? Just a little cutie patootie. Do you see his nose? How can you miss that family trademark?

We got gypped in the pictures department this time around BUT there is a picture floating out there somewhere at SF Perinatal that shows this kid (ahem...should I say future aggie) giving us a THUMBS UP SIGN! That's right....GIG 'EM KID! Phew.

SF Perinatal also failed to give me the image of his....uhm...well...proof that he's a boy. But the doctor did make a point to say "well, THIS kid isn't shy!" Maybe he heard about my blog from Cavin's pregnancy and decided to give Numero Dos a break. Alas, I've got a profile shot:

Isn't he adorable?? :)

Now I have to admit, I am a tad bit nervous about having another boy around here. Cavin, although a GREAT baby and kid, is a bit crazy at times. He's active and does many "boy" things. I'm somewhat nervous about two of those running around. I know that I am adequately prepared for the sports, beer drinking, and trash talking (that goes along with the sports)...probably more so than many other moms. BUT I do lack in the energy and patience department so I'll need some advice from my fellow moms of two.

Everyone knows how much I love pink and princesses and I don't think I'm going to get much of that anytime soon. But wait...maybe I will!

Alright, alright...I MAY of tricked both Cavin and Mike into giving me this picture. I'm sure I've got 18 years of tricks in the form of insects and snakes to look forward to in my future.

All in all we are VERY excited to be bringing in another boy into this world. The world could use a few more mini-Mikes (with a little of me sprinkled in there) and we are just so in love with our little boy now that we are blessed to be having TWO of them! And, frankly, Cavin is going to have so much fun with a brother...the images of the two of them kicking a ball around outside or (gulp) playing in the dirt makes my heart smile.

So bring on the blue!

Giddy up! We're doing this again.

You read that right. Animal Planet's population is a growin'. As of either January 29th or February 4th (more on that later) the humans will have taken over the animals! This is HUGE. Proof is what you want? Alright then.

Call us crazy. Call us out of our minds. Call us what you want. We call ourselves EXCITED! And Cavin is taking his new role pretty seriously.

So get ready for some more confessions and prego perks to be discussed. Oh, and just for kicks and giggles, this is a picture of me at this same point in my pregnancy with Cavin.

Now for some common questions I've received so far:

1) How are you feeling? I feel great....NOW. I had quite a bit of nausea in my first trimester, coupled with quite a bit of work related travel that exhausted me even more than I already was. Once I hit what they call the 'honeymoon trimester' I started feeling GREAT...that is until the Bell's Palsy found me. Google it. I couldn't close my eye, couldn't drink or eat without causing a scene, and just appeared funny in the way I talked and related to people since half of my face was paralyzed. It was just great. I was rocking the pregnancy glow at that point let me tell you. 3 weeks later, I'm still getting over the Bell's Palsy BUT the upside is that I can finally close my eye (sweet relief!).

2) Is this pregnancy the same or different than the last? If you would have asked me this question 3 weeks ago, I would have said "virtually the same". My first trimester (other than one puking episode and a sinus infection) was pretty much the same. Then we took a left turn into crazy-ville come week 19 when the Bell's Palsy hit and now I answer "somewhat different". Now that I'm past a good part of the Bell's Palsy I'd say it feels a lot like my pregnancy with Cavin, other than I'm bigger now than I was with Cavin at this point and I also get run down more easily - part due to chasing a toddler and part due to the fact that work is more demanding this time around than when I was pregnant the first time.

3) Is it another boy or a little girl? We KNOW. But that post will have to be a separate one all on its own. :)

4) How's Cavin handling the news? Well, you saw above that's he's excited! But seriously, I'm not sure he knows what is coming. In general, he's really into pointing out body parts...especially his tummy, my tummy, and daddy's tummy. He knows the word "baby" and "tummy" so we are trying to relate the two when it comes to pointing to 'mommy's tummy'. At some point we'll figure out how to prepare him a little bit more than that.

5) And the animals? Eh...they seem not to notice. But, frankly, I feel like they are giving me looks like "NOT AGAIN!" But I could just be paranoid.

6) How is the baby doing? The baby is doing great! We've had three ultrasounds so far and he/she is moving a LOT. Anyone who knows Cavin very well knows that this would make me a bit nervous to have another active child. Sigh. However, his / her heartbeat is right around 145bpm and he/she has mastered the art of kicking my bladder so that's been fun.

7) What's this about your due date? Well at my 2nd u/s they determined that the baby is measuring 6 days bigger...which apparently is right on the border of when they would change my due date (at that point set at February 4th, 2011). I, jokingly, put the pressure on my OB stating the "the pressure is ON b/c Cavin was born ON his due date!" So she laughed and threw it right back and said "great, then YOU get to choose - you've got either February 4th or January 29th". (Gulp) I chose to stick with February 4th because, in general, I'm not a big fan of the month of January. However, this being said, Mike and I are convinced this baby is coming at least a week prior to the January 29th date. We've just got a feeling.

So stay tuned on if there will be either pink or (more) blue in our future!

Baby S is the on-deck batter!

19 days and counting people!

Mike, baby, and I took our maternity pictures with Kelly M Photography this past weekend and we cannot wait to see how they all turned out.

As you know (but haven't seen b/c I haven't taken pictures yet), we have done a sports themed nursery. To go along with that, we did a sports-themed maternity shoot...well for half of the maternity shoot. We did some regular outfits as well so don't worry! Kelly has only sent us "teasers" for the baseball themed portion of it though so enjoy!

Anyone think I've had too many peanuts and cracker jacks??

24 days

Yep! 24 days until my due date....very hard to believe! Here I am this morning at 36 weeks and 4 days...only 3 days until they consider me "full term".

And, yes, I'm headed to work in jeans on a Thursday. My boss is in Seattle today and I figured a) I'm 9 months pregnant b) I'm getting sick of my maternity work pants c) I'm in no mood to throw on a dress today d) I bought these pair of jeans when I have arguably only one month left in my pregnancy - I best get some use outta them and e) I'm pulling the prego card! If anyone argues with reasons a - d, I will tell them I thought it was Friday (we are allowed to wear jeans on Friday) and "ooops...must be my 'pregnancy brain'".

All in all I've been feeling much better this week than last. I took it easy this past weekend so the swollen feet went down and I stopped getting so hot - although I have a feeling that had a little to do with the 30 - 50 degree weather we've been having. The temps are shooting up to 65 - 75 today through the weekend so I am elevating my feet and (as you can see) wearing short sleeves today.

We (well Mike) *almost* finished the nursery this weekend! He hung pictures, organized some more things...all we need to do is hang a few more things up and we are done! We hope to finish it this weekend and I promise to post pics ASAP. Mike also installed the car seat and I did the most important thing of all - pack Baby S's hospital bag and choose his homecoming outfit of course!

Things have been pretty hectic around the Spruiell household though. I'm frantically trying to get through my last accounting course before I can sit for the CPA exam before the baby arrives...not to mention work is getting busy b/c we have a big project starting up in Seattle. Meanwhile Mike has been traveling some for work and pretty much picking up all the slack around the household since I've become rather worthless when it comes to physical activity. So I apologize to those of you that I owe phone calls to (Stacy, Erin, Eileen, Mer, Jonna, etc)...I promise to call you back soon!!!

And here are some extra pics from this morning when I tried to get the dogs involved in the belly shots...sorry they are blurry, I got distracted with all the licks / kisses I was getting from them.

Did they really just say that?

I'm sure every pregnant lady gets these types of quotes at some point in their pregnancy...usually in the last trimester....but has anyone received this many in one day?? I did! And, truthfully, I find them hilarious!

Yesterday, between my lunch break and running errands after work the following was said to me:

"You look like you are getting ready to pop!" - fellow pedestrian shopper at Barnes & Noble

"You truly are busting at the seams girl!" - store clerk at L'Occitanne

"You are done growing right?" And when I said "No" he replied "You mean you are going to get BIGGER??" - male co-worker

"I'm just waiting for the flip flops." - my boss when I explained why I was walking funny (due to my swollen feet)

"You're enormous." - my boss

"When are you due?? It has GOT to be soon." - store clerk at Banana Republic

"You sure are eating enough for two." - my boss

And the one I'm sure every pregnant lady gets at SOME point in their 3rd trimester...drumroll...

"Are you sure you aren't having twins??" - grocery store clerk

One Month

Today is March 20th, 2009...meaning my due date is exactly one month from today. YIKES!

And in reality, this baby could come anytime before that too...double YIKES!

I've been feeling pretty good, although the 3rd Trimester has hit me pretty hard the last couple days. My feet have started to swell and ache and I've been uncontrollably hot as well. Come the afternoon I am throwing my hair in a ponytail and pulling up my sleeves...yesterday I started eating ice cubes to try to cool down. And y'all know how rare it is for me to actually be hot. Well, I am wearing short sleeves to work and I sleep with no covers on yet I am constantly sweating! Sometimes I think it is a nice change of pace to not be freezing all of the time. However, I'm now thankful that my pregnancy wasn't during the dead heat of the summer in Texas.

We also had a mini-ultrasound yesterday and learned that our baby has quite a bit of hair on his head! I'm not sure why but this made me really excited...to the point where I couldn't stop talking about it all day!! I am just dying to see what our baby looks like and now I know he has hair. heheheehe... I also know that he had one arm over his eyes and one hand grabbing his feet. I'm sure he's a cutie and I cannot wait to meet him!

So let the countdown to the due date begin....31 days...

T minus 5 weeks

Well, the picture is a bit blurry (you try balancing that basketball around your waist while holding a camera steady facing a mirror at 7am while doing everything you can to look cute when you are that huge...sorry, I'm a bit defensive) but one thing is clear - the boy is getting bigger!

This was taken just yesterday at 34 weeks, 4 days...we are almost entering our 9th month of pregnancy!

We have kicked it into high gear here at the Spruiell household. Between the belly expanding, the restless nights, the 5 minutes it takes me to squirm up from lying down to sitting up or from sitting to standing, the onset of some early contractions, and kicks we have been receiving from our baby boy, we have certainly started nesting!

First up, the nursery. Even though Amy, Andy, and Grace donated all of their super cute jungle themed nursery gear to us that matched the jungle themed border already up on the baby blue wall in the nursery - I decided I wanted to do a sports theme instead. Mike sighed but decided not to argue with his pregnant wife and began the process of taking down the jungle theme border. Well, that proved VERY difficult after trying almost everything Home Depot offered. Our last resort was to just cover up the border with something more basic. Here he is hard at work:

He just finished the work last weekend and it really looks great! We have all the furniture in place, have started the massive loads of laundry, and have begun putting together the various contraptions that will apparently help our baby sleep and us maintain our sanity (swings, bouncy chairs, etc). Last night, Mike came home with a bassinet and set it up in our room. He also bought some net type things that will protect our baby from the ever curious Toby. I will have to do an entire post about the multitude of things my husband has done to protect our baby from our vicious animals.

This weekend we have our hospital tour on Saturday and our full-day childbirth prep class on Sunday. We also plan on getting the car cleaned, installing the car seat, and hanging pictures up in the baby room. Grandma Lois will be in town to help finish the laundry and "oooh and ahhh" at the nursery and cute baby clothes. Because lets be honest: Mike does all the difficult work while I stand around and comment while folding and refolding baby clothes - because they are so darn cute!

What the sugar will do to you...

Make your belly grow!

Here's an picture of Baby S and I today, at 32 weeks and 1 day. We are officially in our 8th month of pregnancy!

A couple notes from the last few weeks:

- My local starbucks barista (don't worry, I order decafs) thinks I am ready to pop! This morning she said "you've GOT to be due soon right???" I received the same comment from an old co-worker I ran into today as well. I'm not quite sure how to take these comments.

- Sandy licked my belly this weekend. She's SOOOO ready to be a big sister. Can we talk about how she's the best dog ever? Ok, I'll save it for another post.

- Jerry stepped on my belly this weekend. Needless to say, I am still a bit worried about his reaction to Mike's newest baby.

- Commute time on bart used to mean time for me to get some work done, listen to my pregnancy podcasts, catch up on my Us Weekly, write some baby shower thank you notes (yes, that's why the handwriting is messy) or read my latest book club book. Now bart = NAP! Like clockwork, two stops into my bart ride I am catching some zzzzzzs. This morning, my own snoring (which for the record I do not normally do) woke me up just in time for the Embarcadero station. This whole growing a life thing is really draining my energy.

- We had an amazing shower thrown for us in Colorado by my mother-in law, 2 sisters-in-law, and future sister-in-law. Lots of friends and family gathered to celebrate our little one and we could not have had a better time. There will be an entire post devoted to our Colorado shower shortly.

- I am on strict watch. Mike read my last blog post and is threatening to perform a detailed audit of our kitchen pantry and my office desk for any and all sweets I may have hidden from him or anyone else. He caught me in yet another lie this weekend regarding how many cookies I ate on Saturday, so he's on me like white on rice.

Confessions of a sugar-crazed pregnant woman

My name is Jamie. I am 31.5 weeks pregnant. I cannot go hours without sugar. I blame this on the pregnancy, specifically the third trimester. Like clockwork, the 28th week rolled around and all I could think about were cookies and ice cream. I knew my addiction was bad when I started attempting to hide my indulgences from those closest to me. But when I think about it...there's no reason to hide! I've done well on the weight gain for where I am in my pregnancy, I've eaten relatively well for the last 7 months, and I've only got two months to go. As Mike so eloquently put it "You've got less than 2 months left...all bets are off!"...it is times like these I am reminded why I married this wonderful man.

But in the spirit of being open and not feeling like I'm eating sugar in a dark closet where I'm sure no one will find me, I feel the need to confess (and make a few of you laugh). So here it goes!

1. I have had AT LEAST one cookie every afternoon for the last 2 weeks (maybe more). Notice the use of the phrase "at least".
2. Mike and I (mostly me) downed a bag of double stuffed oreos - dipped in milk of course - this weekend while catching up on our DVR'd episodes of The Biggest Loser. The irony alone is funny.
3. I bought Mike 6 chocolate covered strawberries and 2 chocolate covered oreos for Valentine's day. Mike had one oreo and 1 strawberry. The rest is gone. You do the math.
4. I just snuck out of work early today, forwarded my office phone to my cell phone, and rushed to Baskin Robbins for some ice cream...all in time to down it before Mike got home to see me.
5. We've gotten in the habit of making chocolate and strawberry milk as a treat before bedtime...but we vow to only do this on occasion during the week. We already had a few this week so while Mike was in the other room, I secretively made myself a chocolate milk, ran to the bedroom, and gulped it down before Mike could notice.
6. Mike gave me a bag of chocolates for Valentine's Day. I told him I was going to take them to the office so people would eat them there. Instead I kept them in my office for an entire day and snacked on them off and on throughout the day. My boss was in my office while we were on a conference call and I kept them under my desk and would slip one into my mouth when he wasn't looking....repeat 5 times.
7. After the conference call, I took said chocolates bag to the receptionist and told her to lay them out for others in the office and that under no circumstances was I allowed to have any more. She agreed. 30 minutes later I walked by her desk and noticed she had stepped away...so I stole 5 chocolates very quickly and rushed away before she could notice!
8. The other day, someone asked me about my pregnancy diet - was I eating healthy and did I have any big cravings. I told them no big cravings and I was eating pretty healthy and was proud of myself. 3 weeks ago this was a true statement. After reading #1 - 7, do you agree?
